Abbreviation for Early Position. EP is the first player after the blinds in a 4-7 player ring game or the first two players in an 8-10 handed game. Playing in EP means you are one of the first players to act when the action starts. The first player to act is also known as “under the gun” or UTG. This is not desirable, as you don’t have the advantage of seeing what they other players do before making your decision. Because of this, you should be more cautious and play tighter when you are in early position.
EXAMPLE “I opened in EP with AQs and got several callers behind me.”
