Known as the Dead man’s hand, Ace-8 is what “Wild Bill” Hickok was holding when he was shot and killed by Jack McCall at a poker game in 1876 in Deadwood, a city in South Dakota. Poker was prevalent in the 1800s in America where it spread like a wild fire in the mining towns. One of the favorite pastimes of Hickok was playing poker at local saloons, he was in South Dakota at the time working as a gold prospector.
