Choosing Your Poker Game

Poker is not all the same. For example, there is a big difference between playing No Limit Hold’em (NLHE) or Limit Hold’em (LHE). Even within the same game there are differences, the variables we need to consider in a cash game is often different than in a multi-table tournament (MTT).

One of the biggest reasons for this is the fact that the blinds go up when you’re playing a tournament and stays the same in a cash game, this creates more small-stack situations in tournaments which makes the strategy slightly different. There is tons of small differences like the stack size example, such as whenever you’re all-in in a tournament, your tournament life is at risk therefore the game changes. Continue reading →

Understanding And Accepting Variance As Part Of The Game

Simply put variance is used to describe the ups and downs of playing poker. A more accurate way to put it is to say that variance is the difference between how much money you expect to win on average in the long run and the actual results you are getting short term.

To use a real example let us say that you get all in preflop holding AA and your opponent is holding KK. You are a 82/18 favourite to win this one. Let us say you lose this all-in, that would be called negative variance, since the short term result is worse than the average expected result. In a $0.10/$0.20 game you would be losing $20 instead of winning $16.40. Continue reading →

The first thing is find out who and how many people want to play. You might find yourself with too many friends. Real Money Poker Guide and Tips

Playing poker for real money is not something to be afraid of, not online anyway. While in a real casino you might find it hard to start playing as a beginner that doesn’t know what he’s doing, online you can start at low stakes tables, risking a few cents, in exchange for valuable experience. Advantages of Real Money Poker

A lot of new players decide that investing real money in the game is not a wise move when you’re just starting out, and they’re somewhat right about that. If you’re a complete beginner when it comes to poker, it’s probably a good idea to use the tables with fake casino money, to learn the rules and understand how the game is played.
