Tournament Director

The tournament director (TD for short) is the person responsible for running the poker tournament.

Their job entails various roles, one of which is announcing “shuffle up and deal!” to players at the beginning of the tournament.

Once the cards have been shuffled and the action gets underway at all the tables, it’s the TD’s responsibility to make sure the tournament runs smoothly, as well as to resolve any player disputes. The decision they make is final.

Matt Savage (pictured above) is one of the most famous poker tournament directors. He experienced the poker boom in America first hand, and has officiated at a number of high-profile televised poker events, including the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour.
