Abbreviation for Middle Position. MP is the next seat in a 5-7 handed game; the next two seats in 8-9 player games; or the next three seats clockwise in a 10 player ring game. In MP you have players acting before and after you. It affords you the advantage of seeing how others have acted, however you have to keep in mind that you still have players making their move after you. Keep your opponents guessing by playing a few hands from middle position. To some you will be overly cautious, but to others you will appear overly aggressive.

EXAMPLE “I opened from MP with ATo and BB called.”
