Hand-for-Hand

This term is used in tournament poker to refer to situations when multiple tables are in play and the tournament is nearing the bubble. The Tournament Director will announce “the tournament will now be played hand-for-hand until we reach the money”.

By ensuring that each table plays the same number of hands in the late stages of a poker tournament, there is no incentive for players to stall to cash and to try and climb the payout ladder.

At the completion of a hand, players must wait until all tables have finished the current hand before dealing the next one.
