Bottom Pair

Bottom Pair is a term used commonly in community card poker games to refer to situations when one of the two hole cards match the bottom card on the board.

For example, if you opened Jack Ten on the BTN, got called by the SB, and the flop came Ace-Queen-Ten. That means you’ve flopped “bottom pair” with a gutshot.

You need to be getting very good pot odds when you suspect you’re beat with bottom pair, but call trying to improve to the winning hand. Even when you think you have the best hand, it can be a tricky hand to play, as in all likelihood overcards will come, making you less sure that you still have the best hand.
